JULES & CHARLES

Finding each other while apprenticing as piano technicians, charming singer-songwriter duo Jules & Charles might make you blush and sway with their sweet harmonies and thoughtful, goofy lyrics.

Small Vampires, EP (2009)

Under the moniker CHAR2D2, McCutcheon released the Small Vampires EP, co-produced by Tegan Quin of Tegan and Sara. The project's lo-fi indie-pop sound and understated emotional resonance drew attention from queer and independent music communities, with AfterEllen describing it as “lo-fi indie pop with guitars, keyboards, and sweet, light vocals.”

CHAR2D2

After decades of watching Punky Brewster on TV and listening to a secret radio hidden under their mattress, CHAR2D2 eventually left their home in Vancouver and flew to Paris. They returned with the hairdo of a five year old French boy and a fistful of new songs.

BELLA

Char is a founding member of the indie-pop band Bella (Mint Records). They performed vocals, synth, bass, and acoustic and electric guitar on the acclaimed album No One Will Know, praised for its “dreamy girl-boy-girl vocals, synth hooks, and punchy rhythms” and described by Exclaim! as “futuristic indie pop at its most danceable.” Bella toured throughout Canada and the U.S., sharing stages with The Breeders, Phoenix, Drake, Imperial Teen, and The New Pornographers.

By September 18, 2007, summer was over, but Bella was determined not to let those shorter days get their listeners down. The trio's coyly titled Mint debut No One Will Know extended the blissful season with its dreamy girl-boy-girl vocals, synth hooks, and punchy rhythms. It channels the synth-heavy '80s, but in a gorgeous, non-ironic kind of way, allowing you to relive those sweaty carefree nights from the comfort of your living room, wishing and hoping for one last weekend of summer heat as you and your friends bounce around, perfecting your dance moves.

No One Will Know features contributions from Roddy Bottum and Will Schwartz (Imperial Teen) and Jason Martin (Starflyer 59) under the guiding eye of producer/mastermind Dave Carswell of JC/DC Studios (Tegan and Sara, New Pornographers).

No One Will Know, Album (2007)

"Bella sound like Dragonette without the cheese factor and Metric minus the “hipper than thou” attitude. The West coast trio’s Mint debut captures futuristic indie pop at its most danceable." - Exclaim!

"... while the parts are distinctly familiar, the end result is a creation that gleefully leaves behind the box it came in." - Chart

"... if you are a fan of indie pop, you simply have to have this record in your collection." - AllMusic

Pretty Mess, Album (2004)

Vancouver’s Bella made a sparkling debut with Pretty Mess, blending ’80s-tinged synth-pop, light guitar textures, and an irresistible ear for melody. Moving effortlessly from delicate, blissful pop to noisier guitars and upbeat anthems, the album carves out its own playful, hard-to-categorize sound.
